"THERE IS MORE TO LIFE THAN THE PRIZE. IT’S ALL ABOUT THE JOURNEY. COME UP FOR AIR IN ENFIELD.  MAKE PLANS TO VISIT AND FIND YOURSELF IMMERSED IN OUR UNMISTAKABLE COUNTRY VIBE.  ENFIELD IS A PLACE WHERE THERE ARE STILL OPPORTUNITIES TO CREATE YOUR OWN JOURNEY."

Enfield Economic Development & Revitalization Commission (EEDRC) is happy to report that the National Register Advisory Committee, along with the North Carolina State Historic Preservation Office, met (virtually) on Thursday, June 10, and approved Enfield’s historic district designation nomination. Scott Power, a Regional Supervisor/Preservation Specialist with the Eastern office in Greenville, presented EEDRC’s nomination to the National Register Advisory Committee. The historic district includes 227 properties located on 23 streets. The National Park Service (NPS) recognized the town of Enfield as an official historic district on August 20, 2021. Enfield is now a designated historic district. Thank you everyone for your help!

EEDRC conducted fundraisers to pay for part of the district’s application and nomination, written by NC-Preservation-approved writer, Heather Slane. The organization was more than halfway through its fund-raising when COVID-19 hit. In December 2021, EEDRC was fortunate to be awarded $8,400.00 by the Golden LEAF Foundation to support implementation of this component of the town’s economic development plan. The 2021 Golden LEAF award follows funding awarded in 2010 through a past Golden LEAF special initiative to develop the plan.

If interested, view Scott Power’s presentation at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lr9y6-gF1-k. You can listen to all five hours of the committee meeting (and learn about the historic designation process) or you can fast-forward to hour 4:25 and just listen to Scott Power’s presentation on Enfield.

If you have a property in Enfield’s proposed historic district and you need more information, please contact EEDRC by emailing Gerry Middleton at middletong1@gmail.com or Brenda Greene at brenda317w@gmail.com.

Our Sunflower initiative was successful. Several fields throughout Enfield were covered with these beautiful flowers. For the past three years, Robin Sellers and Troy Fulkerson created a business from a sunflower field at Scotfield Country Club. This year Robin took it step further and planted a field of Crimson Clover. A great spot for wedding photos.

In spring 2023, on Earth Day, EEDRC gave more than 60 ornamental trees (with the generous donation from Halifax Electric) to homeowners in the historic district. Community groups, including DERP and EEDRC, met at the Town Square and then either distributed the trees or helped plant these trees at the homes of senior residents.
